What Textiles Do you Use?

All of my textiles comes from the amazing Organic Textile Company; based in Mid-Wales they produce some of the best organic textiles in the industry. Working closely with GOTS Certified companies in Turkey and India they support small independent farms to produce a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to fast fashion textiles factories.  Organic Textiles Company’s works in a close partnership with Genesh in Kerala, India.

My scarves come from a small textile co-operative in Kerala, where women are paid a fair living wage to produce the organic hand-woven scarves I then dye or print onto in the UK.

What Does GOTS Stand For?

Global Organic Textile Standard. This is the worldwide textile processing standard for organic fibres including ecological and social criteria, backed up by independent certification of the entire textile supply chain.

The aim of the standard is to define world-wide recognized requirements that ensure organic status of textiles, from harvesting of the raw materials, through environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing up to labelling in order to provide a credible assurance to the end consumer.
Textile processors and manufacturers are enabled to export their organic fabrics and garments with one certification accepted in all major markets.

Where Do You Get Your Dye Stuff/ Ingredients From?

The majority of my dye stuff comes from my garden or is locally foraged from nearby areas of South Wales, this means that a lot of my colours are seasonal and in limited supply as I don’t forage more then is needed or in excess to neglect the surrounding wildlife or environment.

Other dyes that are not locally sourced are organic and ethically farmed, however these products are produced in small batches bi-annually to reduce waste and carbon footprint.

Products that are made with beeswax are particularly local as the beeswax comes from an organic bee farm within cycling distance of my home studio.

Practice

Did You Study Textile Design Or Go To University?

Oddly enough I never studied textile design/ printing academically. I did however study Photography at Plymouth University and it was during my time there that I started to really appreciate nature and start to think more alternatively on how to practise sustainability. Once I graduated, I was advised to take up patchworking to help with my creative lulls and that was the beginning of a very addictive path towards where I stand now.

A lot of my skills have been self-taught through books, videos and going to local workshops or events. The passion for my products and belief in making a more sustainable home is the main motivation to continue creating and experimenting with various traditional and modern printing techniques.

If anything is worth doing it’s worth doing right - In my eyes that meant starting from scratch, making my own print blocks, natural dyes and playing around with various shibori methods rather then making reusable products from fabrics made in unknown factory conditions and without knowing what kinds of chemicals or impact the fabric has had prior to my product design.

Do You Do Workshops?

Orders/ Commissions

Do You Do Custom Orders?

A lot of my products are seasonal and require dyes that are grown or foraged during certain periods of the year we can only offer custom orders on specific styles or collections at any one time, but we try my best to fulfil any enquiries or requests. How Long Will My Order Take To Be Dispatched/Arrive?

Orders get processed and shipped out twice a week (typically Monday and Thursday) depending on time of week and where you live postal times may vary. Please note: all parcels are shipped with Royal Mail.

For UK orders we ship first class standard which takes upto 2 working days to arrive to you.

For orders placed within mainland Europe items are shipped standard international please allow for upto 5-7 working days.

For everywhere else items are shipped standard international, please allow for upto 1-2 weeks.

These times are estimated and will depend on individual countries shipping customs regulations.

My Order Hasn’t Arrived Yet/ Where Is My Order?

All items are dispatched with a confirmation order email and then a follow up email to confirm item has been posted - confirmation of dispatch email will include further details and estimated time of delivery; baring in mind that postal times are estimated and may vary depending on where the item is being placed (this includes but is not limited to custom and import regulations) and time of year.

Please note it is the sole responsibility of the customer to input all contact and postal details correctly prior to completing any orders.

Do You Do Refunds?

Yes, if you are not happy with your product or it has a genuine fault Prints By Nature allows refunds of orders that are safely returned in the same condition as received to the postal address provided within 14 days of items estimated arrival date.

Refunds are given to items that are not suitable, have a component fault (that is not deemed to be general wear and tear). As a lot of products are naturally dyed some may alter and change with time and love. All products come with care instructions on how to prolong the life of the product and how to best maintain them – If however you feel there may be an issue with your order that is not classed as the above please do not hesitate to get in touch via our contact page.

Custom orders or products that are “Made To Order” are strictly non refundable and full payment is required prior to Prints By Nature proceeding to fulfil order. It is highly recommended to contact us with full details and ideas prior to ordering as not all designs and methods are available as custom orders.

I’ve Typed In The Wrong Address What Do I Do Now?

Prints By Nature can not be held responsible for the incorrect input of address or contact details; it is the sole responsibility of the customer to input all contact and postal details correctly prior to completing any orders. If in this unfortunate case of events I will be able to provide details of the dispatch date and postal service provided but will not be able to locate missing parcel for this reason.

As Items are bespoke (one of a kind) you are welcome to order an alternative item but no discounts or refunds will be provided for this reason.
